Philippe Chagas isn't just a surf instructor — he's a World Surf League competitor who traded the professional circuit for the warm, waters of West Maui. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, sponsored by some of surfing's biggest names, and seasoned by years of WSL competition, Philippe now brings that rare world-class experience to every single lesson he teaches.
From the Waves of Brazil to the Shores of West Maui Philippe Chagas didn't just fall in love with surfing — he chased it across oceans, competed at the highest levels of the sport, and ultimately found his home in the warm, crystal-clear waters of West Maui. Today, he brings that world-class experience directly to you. Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, Philippe grew up surfing the powerful Atlantic swells along the Brazilian coast. His natural talent and relentless dedication earned him a place on the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series, where he competed alongside some of the best surfers on the planet. Philippe's signature flair and progressive style set him apart — at the WSL SLO CAL Open at Pismo Beach, he turned heads by posting the day's best heat total, a performance that cemented his reputation as a surfer with serious ability and competitive fire. His success on the QS also attracted the attention of major industry sponsors recognized Philippe's potential early, backing him throughout his competitive career and affirming what those who watched him surf already knew: this was someone special. The Aloha That Changed Everything Like so many surfers before him, Philippe felt the pull of Maui — and once he paddled out in West Maui's, turquoise waters, there was no going back. He planted roots here, trading the competitive circuit for something he felt was even more rewarding: sharing his love of surfing with others.
